Ruins ruin
I've been told I am a Ruin snob. Not because I know so much about them but because I have sort of given up caring. Once you've seen a few ruins the rest just kind of seem, well, the same. I would much rather venture into the desert or share a coffee with a little old lady. But instead we spent our 80B (16 x more than lunch) and wandered around some ruins which were sadly covered in trash.
Walking around we realized we were more interested in the signs and bugs than the actual ruins. Five minutes in the Museum, 10 eating a lolly pop. A little walk past the ruins, 30 minutes of lunch. A glimpse at a statue then a little lay down next to the statue. Pretty hilarious day, wrapped up with our poor Quebec friend throwing up after the bumpy bus ride.

To tour or not to tour
I'm sitting here in Sao Paulo. On the couch, reading emails, as I have done all day. I sit here as if I live here. As if I will be in this city forever. But the truth is that I leave tomorrow at 6am and I have barely seen any of the city. As I have so many times before, I have sat back and relaxed. I walk the streets to buy some fruit. Watch the people go by. Walked to the gym with a friend, just for company. I have done nothing and yet it has been one of the happiest weeks.
Why is it that everyone is so dedicated to the tourist side of life? We stand in front of churches, go to museums, take pictures, as the natives just walk by. I for instance have never been to the Statue of Liberty, even with all my NY trips. I've never seen the grand canyon. Who knows if I ever will. Of course there are definitely things I want to see in life. But as I sit here on the couch, listening to good music, I find myself at peace. Happy and satisfied with Sao Paulo. Everything about it. Everything I need to know.
